PhD Studentship in Bioinformatics and Computer Science

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in Bioinformatics / Computer Science. Candidates should hold, or expect to hold by 15 August 2010, a first or upper second class honours degree, or equivalent, in computer science, bioinformatics or a cognate area. Successful candidates will enrol as of 1 October 2010 on a full-time programme of research studies leading to the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).


The closing date for receipt of completed applications is 31 August 2010

Interviews will be held during the week of 2-6 September 2010

The studentship will comprise fees (Home and EU rate) and an annual stipend of £13,630. It will be awarded for a period of up to three years subject to satisfactory progress and is tenable in the Faculty of Life and Health Sciences at the Coleraine Campus of the University of Ulster.

The research of this PhD project is embedded in a European IT project involving project partners from The Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The successful candidate will be required to undertake travel to these partner sites during the course of the project. The topic of the PhD project is concerned with the development of a computer model of a biological system and the development of software facilitating the simulation of the developed model on large-scale computing infrastructures.
